Pixellu SmartAlbums Review • Ross Harvey Story

"A successful business is one run on happiness” - Ross Harvey

We are excited to share Ross Harvey’s story on the Pixellu blog. Aside from his stature as the Best Wedding Photographer in England two years running, Ross is truly a wedding photography success story and one of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet. Watch his inspiring story below and read on for some book recommendations, travel inspiration, and a dessert to make your mouth water.

Q. What is your dessert of choice?
Ross: Home made apple crumble with custard. Lots of custard.

Q. Name a favorite travel destination, and some noteworthy places there.
Ross: Bali is a wonderful travel destination. Such energy and vibrancy in their culture, and such friendly people. You have much more access to things too, for example building sites! I recently started a project in which I was spending days with the Builders of Bali (the project title) and they welcomed me with open arms. I was able to scale buildings and explore caverns. Try doing that in the UK or the US!

Q. What’s a good book that you recently read?
Ross: I've just finished reading The Martian (Andy Weir) which I loved. Before that was Dune. A classic! I'm a big fan of science fiction, and any books I read (except from scientific - quantum physics, psychology etc) have some kind of technology or magic in them :) I'm now reading The Evermen Saga which is proving excellent. Reminds me of His Dark Materials, which is a trilogy I'd recommend without hesitation.

Q. When do you feel most inspired?
Ross: I find myself inspired by people and nature. Watching the worlds best footballer or guitarist, for example. Or a walk along a lake. or star gazing (which I do a lot of when the UK weather lets me!). I'm at most most inspired when a camera is in my hand however, my logic mind quiets and I go into a very different mode of thinking; entirely engaged with the environment and the moment. It's like being in an active meditative state. Hours pass in what seem minutes.

Q. What are the things you splurge on?
Ross: Technology and travel. I'm a bit of a gadget geek, so I'm always buying and testing the latest cameras. Being a bit of an audiophile too, I enjoy top quality audio gear. I spend so much time listening to music, it may as well be of a great quality! Traveling is a worthy investment, as it yields life experience. Nothing is more important!

Q. What value do you see in offering albums to your clients?
Ross: Albums give couples a tangible and social experience of their story through photography. There's nothing quite like sitting with your loved ones and going through an album filled with wonderful memories. Very special indeed.

Q. If you weren’t a photographer, what do you think you’d be doing?
Ross: Graphic designer, speaker/coach (happiness and creativity) or space traveller ;)
